Tasmanian Weather - what to expect

According to the Australian Bureau of Meteorology Australia and the globe are experiencing rapid climate changes. Since the middle of the 20th century, Australian temperatures have, on average, risen by about 1 degree Celsius with an increase in the frequency of heatwaves and a decrease in the number of frosts and cold days. Rainfall patterns have also changed – the northwest has seen an increase in rainfall over the last 50 years while much of eastern Australia and the far southwest have experienced a decline.

What to wear

A good rule of thumb is never go anywhere without a coat – we can easily have 4 seasons in one day!!!. Have a warm jacket for autumn, winter and spring and a light jacket for summer. Even a hot day of Temperatures in the high 20’s can have a cool evening. Hobart is the 2nd driest city in Australia after Adelaide – we get most of our rain in the spring. We also get the second highest amount of sunshine in Australia after Adelaide.

History of Graham Court Apartments

History of Graham Court Apartments

Graham Court Apartments began it’s life as a private residence built in 1927 by company manager Herbert Barnett. His grandson Guy Barnett is a Tasmanian Senator. In 1942 the Barnett’s purchased the block of land behind them that bordered Swanston Street so that they could build a tennis court. The Swanston apartments were built on the site of the tennis court during the late 1970’s and mid 1980’s. In 1951 Gerald Graham a retired hotelier purchased the home from the Barnett’s and established it as a guest house. The Graham family built the courtyard apartments in 1963 – they were the very first self-contained apartments in Tasmania built when everyone else was enamoured with the latest thing – Motels!

Around 1984 the Graham Family sold the property and business to Ray McConnon who 12 years later in 1996 sold to us, the current operators Bill and Stephanie Pegus. Graham Court Apartments has had only 3 business operators in 58 years – quite a record in this industry!
